LASIK Refractive Surgery

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a safe, reliable and painless way to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. At Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Texas, our doctors meet every prospective candidate for laser vision correction and discuss expectations for this surgery and the benefits it can offer them in their particular lifestyle needs. We are involved in all phases of your procedure from the pre-op, measurements, surgery, to follow-up visits.

At Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Texas, we use the latest and most advanced technology for LASIK, including all laser LASIK with Intralase and Custom Vue treatment. At the initiation of the LASIK procedure, a drop of anesthetic is placed on the eye along with oral Valium for further relaxation. Next the Intralase Laser is used to create a flap of tissue from the surface of the cornea. The flap is then lifted and the VISX Star S4 Tracking Laser reshapes the cornea's curvature (steepened for far-sighted patients, flatten for near-sighted patients) to improve vision. The flap is then replaced back without any need for sutures.

The entire procedure takes only 15-30 minutes for both eyes and patients are ready to leave within an hour. Antibiotic eye drops & steroids will be prescribed for a week, along with any other post-operative instructions. Most patients return to normal activities the following day.

If you have been told you are not a candidate for LASIK, there are other options to consider. Call to set up your free consultation (713) 944-5700.

Eye Refractive Surgery with Bifocal and Astigmatic Lens Implants

For the right candidate, patients now have another option to reduce their need for reading glasses. With the development of bifocal or multifocal intraocular lenses, an intraocular surgery similar to cataract surgery can be performed. These lens implants offer both good distance and good reading vision reducing the need to use reading glasses more than 80% of the time.

The natural, clear lens is removed using phacoemulsification ("phaco") surgery which is a minimally invasive, no-stitch cataract surgery. First, the eye is numbed with topical anesthesia in an outpatient surgery setting. Then a tiny incision is made in the eye to make room for a small ultrasonic probe. This probe breaks up, or emulsifies, the clear lens and then is suctioned out. After the natural lens has been removed, the multifocal artificial lens is implanted in the eye through the same small incision from the phaco procedure. The next day the patient can enjoy the remarkable change in vision both at distance and at near.

Surgery for Droopy Eyelids

Eye lid surgery or blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's superior field of vision. The procedure is usually performed as an outpatient procedure with local anesthesia in as little as 45 minutes. Blepharoplasty can be combined with BOTOX® treatments to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and crow's feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes and forehead to smooth crow's feet, and worry lines. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX® injections block nerve impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look.
